OUR HISTORY
A TIMELINE OF CHANGE

Ohio Agri-Women started 1980, but then we were known as Women for Ohio Agriculture. In 1994, we became known as our name today, Ohio Agri-Women. Our group got its start after a worrisome harvest season with a low crop yield, rising interest rates, falling land values, little or no rain and hail damage, Sherry Body decided something need to be done. Sherry knew that the men in her life had plenty to do with the harvesting. She was determined to “do something about the lack of communication about agriculture”.
Sherry gathered her neighboring women together and called Pat Leimbach to speak on the need for farm women to network and promote agriculture. Pat had been instrumental in the organizing activities of American Agri-Women (AAW) and was known as an Ohio author and speaker. The London, Ohio meeting was the first effort in its brochure.
Now for over 35 years, thanks to Sherry Boyd, Ohio Women who have a strong interest in Agriculture have a voice to stand up and speak out. Agriculture and farming has evolved over time to including all members of the family working the business. Today, women are more involved for the farming community and have first-hand knowledge of how legislation affects their farming community. Through Ohio Agri-Women, American Agri-Women and other state affiliates, women are able to take their concerns straight to legislators.
